FWIW, I work with Macs all the time, and I had a *major* fistfight getting
a reformatted 500 series powerbook to use it's internal modem.
The problem with the modem was that the Global Village Powerport software
isn't freely available and the %&*# Boca/GV website doesn't make it at all
clear that you actually need to buy it (again).
To make things more confusing, the GV website freely distributes another
modem software (Teleport) that might seem like it should work with this
powerbook, but it doesn't.
I finally found out that I needed to buy the special PowerPort software for
this model by digging deeply into Apple's TIL.
Fortunately, the client had the original install disks for the software at
his home.
There are so many different models and so much different software and it's
hard sometimes to know all of the subtleties, even if you call yourself a
pro.
cheers-
Larry
