haha, I see what you mean :)  Of course they mean it in the sense of
'applause' though.  They're not big on the thumbs-down part of the equation,
which I pretty much agree with...  I should have mentioned that, but I was
reading the digest version and stopped to reply to this first message in the
thread before seeing the rest of the discussion, lol.  *dunce*

But I just thought I would mention web claps if anyone wanted to look into
them, as another model for how such a thing could be implemented on DW.  Or
indeed on their existing LJ, since almost all existing web clap services out
there are designed to be used on remote sites, though the trouble with all
of this is most of the services are in Japanese -- I managed to find this
link explaining one version of the system, though: (

saying "thanks for a good entry" without actually having to comment is
pretty big in Japanese blogging.
