Here's another note from Matanya regarding Aguado and another demonstration 
of why access to his resources and studies is a boon to those of us who 
like guitars:

 > There are six different books by Aguado. The one that
 > is relevant is from the 1843 Nuevo metodo, the very book
 > from which the picture is taken, and in which Aguado
 > says:
 >
 > de ningun manera se apoyara el dedo menique sobre la
 > tapa. In no way (under no circumstance) one should
 > place the little finger on the Soundboard).
 >
 > I quoted it a long time ago to rebut the statement made
 > by the Evanses in their book, which was pretty much
 > the same as yours.

[i.e., in paraphrase, "The famous picture of Aguado looks to have his wee 
finger firmly planted on the bridge."]
