My daughters will use Ranch dressing or Wendy's Chocolate Frosty to dip
fries into.

Myself, I'd rather have fried onion rings with maranara sauce.

I worked in Belgium for a stint, in Flanders actually, at a rug factory in
St. Baafs en Vij. We had an apartment on the beach in Ostende, but it was
autumn and very wet and dreary. Although when push comes to shove it's
sometimes hard to tell the difference between August and November in that
part of the country. It was an interesting experience and I loved the fries
with mayo, which was very popular street food. Whenever I went to Holland I
noticed that the dish was advertised as Vlaamischen Frites . pardon my
Dutch.

I know, I know . I heard all the Dutch jokes made by Flemish colleagues. But

there are two things that I'm sure we can agree on: Belgian beer and
chocolate!

Arrrgh! Just going through my EDI-L messages and see this comment.

Fries & Mayo is typically Belgian, not Flemish!!!

This is one of the things French and Flemish speaking Belgians agree on!

Anyways. it was fun to see my country of origin mentioned on EDI-L :)

Either way, Belgian (Flemish actually) mayonnaise or Canadian poutine,
that's a lotta cholesterol!

No!! You are thinking of Belgium. In the UK red (ketchup) or brown
(preferably HP) sauce is used for chips[1]

Regards
Chris

[1] In the UK fries are called chips, chips are called crisps.
