agreed.  Before I would run any taps I would run it in air, etc., but I 
would try a new cheap tap after the initial tests looks good.  If I can 
tap 5 to 10 holes in a piece of scrap without breaking it using a cheap 
tap, then I would feel OK risking the expensive ones.  That's my 2c
