I grew up in Washington DC. Haven't really missed it too
much since I left. it WAS cool, however, when visiting.
I'd take a strange turn off the beltway when it got backed
up, and start driving on side roads, and my wife would say
"Oh, we're lost, you need to stop and ask somebody", and I'd
say "No, actually, I know EXACTLY where I am, and we will
pop out on Georgia avenue in 3 blocks", even though it
looked like we were in the sticks.

Also, going into a Safeway store in Silver Spring, I had
been in there many times with my Mom 40 years ago, and
knowing pretty much where everything was, as they had
changed NOTHING in that store in the meanwhile!

But, if you think Washington is bad, check out the bay
area. I used to go there for experiments, and try to make a
round trip down from Berkeley to San Jose, Santa Clara,
Mountain View and Oakland to hit all the electronic surplus
places. Quite a drive!

Jon
