This is probably a silly suggestion, but for not a whole lot more than a 
good shop vac, you can get a decent dust collector from Grizzly.  I 
bought one years ago after being driven nuts by the screaming shop vac, 
and haven't looked back since.  Extra hosing sent to the floor of the 
shop with a wide-mouth collector makes a wonderful dustpan too.
