it looks like this is kde-specific breakage. You may find this
workaround from redhat's bugzilla to be helpful.

A workaround is to go to
KDE System Settings -> Application Appearance -> Colors -> Options
and disable the checkbox for
Apply colors to non-KDE4 applications
and logout and login again.
