At the time this problem started, I had been using just the basic Junk rule for longer than I can remember, and it worked just fine. I only added the additional rules after trashing the Mail Rules file and starting over, with a suspicion that the JMF wasn't working properly. Although I'm not an expert, I'm not _new to rules_. And when this problem started, I had only recently added or modified one rule [the one described in my last post]. Again, the JMF seemed to stop functioning _before_ I added the extra junk rules.
