First of all, a wide angle isn't something I'd use for closeups of
flowers. For one thing, backgrounds will show more area around the subject,
not a good thing. Plus, depth of field is large, even wide open, therefore
you'll get backgrounds mostly in focus.
The EF 20-35 is wonderful, you'll never regret owning one. But use
something else for closeup work. I suppose if you want to shoot a larger
area of flowers and keep them all in focus, it would work. But not for
single blooms, even very large flowers.
By the way, I sure don't always shoot my 20-35 at 20mm. That is to say,
I shoot it at a length somewhere from 20 to 35 mm. That's the beauty of it,
I can choose what works. It seems it's always different. Sometimes it's
20mm, sometimes 21, etc etc.
