This would mean that the 20mm gives almost twice the magnification of the 
20-35 at 20mm.

0.14 for the 20mm.
0.074 for the 20-35 at 20mm.

This is because the 20mm focuses closer than the 20-35.

Good to know, because I want to buy a lens that will give me extreme 
close-ups at 20mm for maximum effect.

Maybe I should go for the 20 f/2.8 instead of the 20-35 f/3.5-4.5 after 
all, even though the 20-35 is probably more useful for travel pictures... 
Well... someday I will decide...
