sure, though I was hoping to find a simpler solution. :-) this may be
pretty simple for somebody with your experience, as for me, I don't dream
in C yet. :-)

moving to higher-bandwidth network isn't an option unfortunately. As for
the latter, Ultrascan runs on most flavours of *NIX but not anything
Windo*s. The instrument runs on Windo*s but not any flavour *NIX. Ergo
the problemo.
I am looking into VNC right now.
