I think major manufacturer hostility to building EV's is the main problem, with their calculation that they can make more money by milking old technology than by suffering costs of stranded assets. Just my personal working hypothesis. Part of the reason they're able to hide in the skirts of other reasons and issues is, indeed, that the myths and half-truths surrounding EV's seem quite difficult to dispell.
