I've seen times where Windows will not load the profile correctly and use a temporary one (the name for this escapes me at the moment). It doesn't necessarily use the profile settings at that point. Once you log out and back in again it will sometimes reset, which winds up with your original profile. It may explain the behavior she saw. You should be able to see an instance in the Event Viewer if this occurred.
