[expert] Dialing router (diald?)

I have an older RH 5.2 system running as a dialing router.  Want to upgrade
to a system with a graphical interface (read Gnome or KDE) so that it is
easier for the users of the system to deal with it.  I did use diald on the
old system, is there a better option today or is diald still the recommended
path?
