I know but at the time the problem was 'time' I add to do a job for someone
and I could not spend hours or days to try to do it. Now If that SB/mixer
was working fine it would not have been any problem, but in V9 I already had
the problem. in 8.2 and before I add an AWE32 and if I recall it was ok.
I have tried to recompile using 'generic' i.e. kernel alsa etc... but it is
not that simple, because Mandrake has in own setup with the like 'do not
edit, generated by M....' and you have to patch config files, and after
you're not 100 % Mandrake which give you more headache. When I am back from
holidays in 2 weeks time, I'll try to install another distribution on blank
disk, to see if it is the same problem with the SB, if it ok I know it's
Mandrake related, then I can look at the differences. If I still have
problem bad luck.

I do dual-boot - but I can't remember when I last saw windows. Still,
if it comes to that, I can do it. It's infuriating, though, to be so
near yet not able to get there.
