Changing the Working Space only changes the MEANING of the numbers in the
file. It's functionally akin to using the Assign Profile command in
Photoshop 6. I can't imagine why in normal workflows you would want to do
this! This will hose the preview (since the file is different than what
Photoshop believes it to be) and any further conversions will hose the file
because you are defining a source for the conversion that isn't true.

The only time you would change your Working Space in Photoshop 5 would be to
match a file you know is in a different space (so conversions, previews and
embedding is now correct). This is far less an issue in Photoshop 6 because
of the Document Specific color features. Photoshop 6 doesn't care that your
Working Space is sRGB but you open a file in Adobe RGB. The embedded profile
(in this case Adobe RGB) will be used for preview and conversions. So what
you set as the Working Space doesn't matter here (it does when you create a
new file or open a file that has no embedded profile-then the Working Space
is used).
