Guido lived in the 11th century. The earliest musical notation is 
from the 9th century, responding to a memorization crisis stemming 
from Charlemagne's liturgical reforms. Saying that Guido invented any 
aspect of music notation is like saying that Rameau invented 
functional tonality.
