Ok, i just had another idea... to fully support movable .apps in /sw/Applications, we could create a carbon ALIAS file in /Applications to our installed .app. The user could move that app alias wherever they wanted. RangerRick thinks we could even HIDE the /sw/.Applications folder with a dot folder so the user won't touch it in the finder. This could work like so:
- The .deb installs the .app into /sw/.Applications
- Fink adds a "configure" setting on where to put .app alias files. (so you can select the place you prefer your apps)
- Fink adds a field like Applications: foo.app bar.app OR, fink looks at the deb to see if you installed any .apps into /sw/.Applications, and aliases those.
The ".Applications" trick should prevent users from "moving" things (cant see that folder in finder), and the aliases can be "moved" at will.
