New computer boxes can be so cheap that you can think of one as just an accessory for the rig. My last computer purchase was a dual-core 2.66 GHz Pentium eMachine with 512 KB mem and 160 GB HD for $299 about a year ago. Adding $30 memory and it is still pretty cheap. It even had serial and parallel ports.
