I have had this problem also, drives me nuts. 
I press quickly Z A (zoom all) and the Z is lost
when it doesn't work I press Z A again the Z has
no function and I have now done A A which starts
the autorouter. I then have to try and stop it 
before the whole board get screwed up. This is
with Protel 98.

Now I have just tried to see if the problem is
there with 99SE, no, then I tried with 98, no.

I'm running Win 2K sp1, 800Mhz PIII, 512M, Asus
GeForce 2 32M.
