A friend and I are working on the Shuttle SK41G. We wanted to purchase the SS40G but they have been discontinued and are hard to find here in the States now. While we don't need the AGP slot, the onboard USB 2.0 might come in handy. Pne design issue with the SK41G is that it has no pre-built SPDIF on the case. The case front does support an SPDIF-in. There is support for SPDIF on the board, so I have pulled the jumper for the front audio (which I don;t need) and used a spare SPDIF In and OUT bracket/cable which fits nicely in where the AGP card bracket would have been. I'm Planning on matching the box with a Logitech Z-680 speaker system which has the doby digital, DTS and ProLogic II decoders built in.
My friend is trying to build his box based on Win2K while I am going the linux route with mine. (We have identical hardware though) Installed Suse 8.0 on Saturday along with Freevo. Music playback and DVD work fine with Freevo. Still need to read up on configuring this however as TV has no audio (probably something with setting the correct mixer for the loopback line-input - BTW TV card is AverMedia Studio Deluxe (w/FM Tuner and remote..) Also actually viewing TV blanks the main Freevo window and launhes another with the TV image (but that window is in background by default - more reading & config to go obviously) Haven't tested tv-out yet, need to get LIRC configured for the AverMedia remote, FM-Tuner software has yet to be selected. The power supply fan is still fairly loud on this machine but not nearly as bad as it was on the SV24. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------- "What I need is a strong drink and a peer group." - Ford Prefect ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Scholarships for Techies!
