You can boot over the network using BOOTP. Your network adapter must support this, though. For more information have a look at http://ldp.linux.no/HOWTO/Network-boot-HOWTO/index.html I'm experimenting with this setup at home, and are able to boot from the network and run freevo. Currently I'm using my own desktop computer, but I plan to buy myself a dedicatet home-entertainment computer for my livingroom, running diskless and noiseless (or, at least noise low). I'm now using a dxr3 card for video/audio output, and it works ok (but have not tested it very much yet). I plan to use the dxr3 card in the new computer as well, for best dvd-quality. But I'm a bit concerned with divx quality, as I understand the divx must be converted to mpeg real-time to use dxr3 as output. What kind of processor will I need? I was kind of planning to use the VIA C3 1Ghz, as it doesn't required a fan but I'm worried it won't be sufficient. Does anybody have any experience with this?
