The proper thing to do if one is sensible is to
decrease exports as much as possible and increase imports as much as possible.
It is symptomatic of the horrible education that people receive that they think
the opposite.

some time although they deny it. They see it as a way of increasing exports and
reducing imports. They are upset a China for pegging the Yuan to the dollar
because it hurts their policy. This may be a way of getting at China but, of
course, has the effect of making the Chinese more competitive in the US relative
to the rest of the world.
