It's a VST Expansion Bay drive. I haven't cracked it open to look at it. They no longer make those, but MCE does make them, as well as kits to adapt a standard laptop drive for expansion bay use.
I currently am using a Travelstar 30 gig ( I still can't believe that IBM is getting out of the hard drive biz ) with the new fluid bearings, awesome drive. I don't use Illustrator and Photoshop...
