I switched to Vonage and fired BellSouth. I actually think my phone service is BETTER! I did invest in battery backups for my cable modem, the box they sent me and the phone. I now pay less than half of what I used to pay the phone company and I even added the toll free number which is GREAT for my family around the country.

Make sure they offer 911 service in your area, or you have a backup cellphone.

Thanks for the info Tim, my only problem with Vonage over Verison is that they don't offer a local number which would make it difficult for family who live in town to call without dialing long-distance. Of course the Verison plan it about $5 more a month also.

And Bruce I appreciate the concern, but somehow I managed to survive for roughly 40 years without having 911 phone service and I really think I could do it again if I had to. Besides, if I lived any closer to the county Sheriff's office, I would have to yell each morning for the turnkey to let me out so I could go to work!

I think Vonage has the first month free so I have not got a lot to lose by trying it first.

Just a message from Doug...
