Yea. One of the biggest problems with Macs in an office environment is that there are a LOT of required apps that are Windows-only. Running them on a Mac, under a PC emulator (if they run at all), is a horrible experience - abysmally slow, crashy, etc. And IT departments sure don't want to put both a Mac and a PC on someone's desk. Being able to switch-boot Macs into a full- speed full-featured Windows will be a boon for Macs in those environments.

Well, VPC (and other emulators, like QEMU and Bochs) run significantly faster on Intel processors than they do on PPC's, simply due to dropping the translation requirement.

I won't be suprized to see many office Macs running Windows normally, then booted into OS X temporarily/periodically just to run specialized apps.

That's bad for Apple, then they're viewed as just "a damned expensive toy that idiot in Marketing is using to run one program." Worse, that attitude leads companies to "port" their software by saying "Just boot into Windows".

Bleah!

WINE will let many Windows program run right in OS X; it's already working, albeit verrrry slowly, in conjunction with QEMU, in the DarWine project <http://darwine.opendarwin.org/index.php>

On an Intel Mac the requirement for Qemu is gone.

One note...WINE is such a faithful rewrite of the Windows DLL's, that it was also vulnerable to the recent WMF exploit. The difference was that WINE was patched within a day of this being known.
