Yeah, multi-user systems can be confusing if you've never used one,
but first, you'll get used to it in a while, and second, be very,
very grateful it is that way.

On Windows systems everyone IS the boss (in most cases, if you're
not, it's a PITA) which means that any old bit of malware you
encounter while you're working gets to be boss, too.

It's not an illusion. You are, when you give your password, The Boss,
you just had to show your credentials.

Think of it as the Mac as a company that has you as Owner/CEO, and
you hired a vigilant, duty-conscious security guard.

No matter if he THINKS he recognizes you, you gotta show your ID card
to get into the executive washroom or fiddle with Payroll, because
everybody needs to do this.

(ok, ok, so he's VERY single-minded, and can be quite annoying at
times. But he never sleeps, he's always on duty, and you've never had
anything stolen, unlike Joe's WindowsCorp down the street who's
constantly being burglarized, gangsters run prostitution, drug and
gambling rings out of his business without his knowledge, and the
building's mysteriously burned down five times already.)

In the film 12 o'clock High, Gregory Peck has to go down and sort out an American bomber squadron in England during WW2. He has to not only show them who is boss, but also to instill a great deal of discipline and thereby to make them proud of themselves. His first bollicking was of the sentry who was happy to wave him thru the check point to the camp. The car carrying the general went thru but stopped a few metres on and Peck got out and walked back and confronted the hapless guard. Check the id card of anyone, no matter their rank!
