David blurbed:
Bought a FW external box and drive (Seagate 120GB 7200rpm). I will
probably end up putting this inside my QS 933 tower and moving the
60GB ST360021A Barracuda Seagate out into the external case.
Couple of questions:
(1) The case I bought has no fan and is a bit meagre in proportion (I
just assumed it would have a fan!)! .......
(2) Can someone please remind me: can one just switch on and off a
firewire external in the middle of a session.........

well David, I guess my approach would be a tad diff from yours, to wit:
1). I have a QS as well and one possibility to consider is that you
can easily piggy-back the new 120 drive just above the original drive
and save the ext. case for your next (bigger) drive. All the
connectors are there in your box, nothing extra to buy or worry
about. Use Disk Utility to format the drive to your liking and you're
good to go. It's generally cheaper to buy a bare drive anyway (even
down in Oz-land I imagine), so the next time around you'd have the
ext. case for a quick place to stuff one of your drives.
2). Please note (as mentioned by Wayne, et al.): you should never
switch a firewire drive on or off with ejecting it first. Once
ejected (no longer mounted) you can turn it off, or - if you think
you want to use it again soon for example - unplug the fw connector
and plug it back in again to re-mount. Piece of cake.

It tells me that I have to go up to the tool bar &
"shut down the Aux. HD" in the Finder for it to "eject" properly.
Well, of course there's nothing to "eject", but it keeps my computer
happy, so I do that and then I will turn turn the Aux. HD off at the
external case. As far as booting up, it doesn't seem to matter whether
my Aux. HD is off or on.

simpler solution: select the drive's icon (in either a Finder window,
the Sidebar, or on the desktop) and press Command-E.
