My brother uses an Ipad a great deal, but for any extensive typing makes use
of a fold out keyboard which he also carries, which seems the sensible thing
to do to me, afterall while there are advantages to using a touch screen,
there's no point using it for everything! just because it's there.

Re:LWorks
Hi all.
I have no problem with the touch screne interface however I do still
prefer a real keyboard for extensive typing both on my Droid4 and my Ipad.
As for mobile games, I saw a review of gaming on mobile devices on G4
recently and their consensus was that, with a few exceptions most games
for things like iphones and ipads and Android devices are generally
designed for quick gaming on the go, you are not going to see these deep
complex games that you are going to spend hours and hours playing. Rather
they are going for the people who want to play something for ten minutes
or 20 minutes and then put it back down for a while.
As I said there are exceptions to this but I do agree with their
assessment from what I've seen of mobile gaming so far. Their conclusion
was that if you want more in depth complex games on a mobile platform you
are better off with something like one of the Nintendo or Sony portable
systems.
This is not to say that mobile games are bad, it simply depends on what
your gaming tastes happen to be. Myself I am usually looking for
something to play while I am sitting at a bus stop or on a bus or train or
during other downtime. So I actually can enjoy something fairly simple
like Hearstrike or Naval Combat. If I want something a little closer to a
console experience I can always get out my psp which I usually have with
me.
One thing I intend to buy from the Google playstore probably this weekend
is an Atari 2600 emulator, it is based on the Stella emulator so should
hopefully work pretty well. They only want around 3 bucks for it so it's
definitely worth the risk. This is one situation where having both the
touch screne and a hardware keyboard is going to be pretty necessary, I am
pretty sure that playing the old games trying to use just the touch screne
would be very difficult for us to manage if we could do so at all. I will
let you guys know how this emulator works out.
Game on.

If I could get an iPhone that used raised buttons or keys, I would get it.
However, I have no problem with the current iPhones 4S.

Precisely. I could never go back to a push button phone, particularly not
in view of the fact that I'd have to pay extra for te screen reader or
download a free and, to be qite frank, less satisfactory alternative. As
far as games go I haven't yet found any games for mobile devices that
really interested me so that's not an issue.

It's a learning curve for sure, but I've managed it. Think of the touch
screen like operating a PC. The first time you touch something, it is
highlighted. Double tap on the screen and it is activated. Touching
different areas of the screen once will not activate them, it's like
arrowing to what you want on a PC. Other gestures which you use are
triple
tapping quickly, swiping with 1 through 4 fingers up or down, left or
right.
Once you get used to doing it, it's OK. You can also highlight, continue
holding and tap elsewhere.

Hi Thomas,
Well, if there are going to be games for the mobile market, I'd love to
see some for Nokia devices running Simbian. More and more games are
coming out for IOS devices and it'd be nice to see some for devices that
are more accessible.
Sure, Apple try and do the voiceover app, but when I tried an IPhone it
was pointless and useless since the interface was purely all touch
screen. How other blind people manage with it is beyond me and goes
straight over my head.
I tried it for two weeks before I got impatient with it so I went back
to the lovely button operated Nokia and Talks setup again.
I'd support Simbian myself, but looks like it's a trek down C++ lane,
which doesn't sound appealing.
Regards,
Damien.

Hi Damien,
That's hard to say. For one thing there are developers who write iOS
games etc on a contract basis and its possible Liam is simply hiring
someone to develop the games for him. In a case like that he can keep
producing games for LWorks without actively developing games himself.
Of course, if he is developing the games himself or hiring the job out
to a third-party developer he has a personal interest in supporting iOS
devices and has decided to get out of the PC market. As someone who
also tends to spend more and more time on mobile devices I can see why
that is a much more appealing target than writing games for his desktop
or laptop at home. :D

Hey,
If LWorks is making IOS games, does that mean that there's a chance he
