I guess the thing is, all we need to do is generate the tarball on a platform that has a newish version of autotools, then we can just send that tarball around to be built. Then we won't have this issue. The other thing is there seems to be efforts to create packages for Open Solaris and OpenCSW, so as far as packages go, those guys maybe covered in the near future.
