Yeah, I pretty much agree with Scott. Our defense did everything you could have asked against some really talented kids. No touchdowns, one field goal and under 150 yards of offense given up. What's not to like? Hawaii scored more points against us than the Canes.
I think our offense was out of sync, but that was because they were confused by the aggressive, unpredictable style of defense the Canes were using. In my mind, it all came down to the offensive line. It doesn't matter how fast you are as a ball carrier if a linebacker is in your face before you even get the handoff. I agree it wasn't fun watching the Miami defense pour through our line so often, but here's the thing. We adjusted over the course of the game (or perhaps we were better conditioned), because by the end, Tebow was getting enough protection to actually complete regular planned passes... and our offense did score 24 points. Think about that... 24 points when they were confused and harassed throughout most of the game. What's our upside limit? I still think we'll see the offense we've all been talking about before this year is over. Sitting in the stands, it was tough to gauge the game. Was our offense out of sync? Was the play-calling not adjusted to what scUM was giving us? Were we just lethargic? Is scUM's defensive front that good? Is our offensive line that bad (I'm resisting naming names, here :-))? Probably a little of everything. It seemed like the fans showed up ready to do their part, but by the second quarter it felt like we were just waiting for the team to give us anything to cheer about. I agree with whoever was reminded of the NC Tenn team, because I also felt that the Gators never panicked. They were very workmanlike on offense, and kept plugging away until things finally clicked. That being said, I don't want to see this in many more games, as the level of competition will only increase and I don't need any more anxiety. As Helen noted, the weather was unusually hot and humid for a late game. Also, the new band uniforms are really really nice. As we were walking back to the car and I was rethinking the game, I realized how crazy our expectations have gotten. I felt like we didn't play very well, etc., but the bottom line is: we won by 23 (covering the spread) and held them to a field goal. It may not have been as easy or dominant as I would have liked, but by most realistic measures, it was a butt-kicking, and today scUM and fsu fans are crying that we ran up the scorre. SWEET! :-) Mary On Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 10:05 AM, Scott Lucas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: --- Gatorrrrrr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > People are finding ways to move the ball on us. > and that's bad.. very very bad. > They are?!?! we gave up less than 150 yards for the WHOLE game!!! they didn't score a touchdown at all!!! Yeah, the game was slow... you all were expecting offensive fireworks and maybe you all bought ito the "no one can stop Florida's offense" hype, but open your eyes and look at what really happened... Your expectations were so high, anything less than 500 yards of offense is a disappointment... We won the [EMAIL PROTECTED] game people!!!! we covered the spread!! we did what the bookies said we could do but maybe not what the media said, but who believe them anyway? They didn't move the ball... they had some long frustrating, dink and dunk passing and 3 yard runs that amounted to what? NOTHING! We won!
