On a macro level, my experience was just the opposite. There are/could be extenuating factors however, so read into this what you will.
The Brevard County Gator Club isn't very high up on the pecking order. Last year, when Addazio was filling in for Meyer on the circuit, we got Pat Dooley as our speaker. That being said, Spurrier was here once, the year after the national championship season, and Meyer once also, after his first season at UF (we also had the Zooker once , FWIW). During the portion before the meeting, when the coach autographs items and meets the fans that are willing to stand in line for the opportunity, Spurrier spent the whole time talking to a local sportswriter, and as he signed the items put in front of him, rarely even made eye contact with, and never spoke to, the fan. Meyer went out of his way to engage each and every one in conversation. But Meyer may have felt that he needed to get everyone behind him, while Spurrier no doubt assumed that they either already were, or they could kiss his butt. They are two very different people, that's for sure. --- On Wed, 12/1/10, Helen Huntley <hhsga...@gmail.com> wrote: I forgot to say--Regarding the booster clubs--- I think that Urban never put out the effort to build good will with the fans. The fans liked him anyway because he won. Now that he's not winning, there's no underlying feeling of good will to fall back on. Even though SOS did not like going to booster clubs, he was not cold to fans the way Urban has been. SOS was also very good with the media. He didn't stonewall or refuse to speak to reporters after a loss. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
