No argument that when you're troubleshooting powering off just getting the thing to power off by any means necessary is a useful exercise. However, I still think he should just do what the man page says (and not what some Debian-oriented webpage says) and call shutdown with the correct arguments to power the thing off before spending a lot of time troubleshooting. -- Rich
