let me also provide some further details on what me and Simone are doing on
gt-trunk.
I'm working on an imageio-ext 1.1.x version using GDAL 1.7.2 and I will
update the gt-imageio-ext-gdal to use it.
Moreover, as you have noticed from the last JIRAs, I did some updates on the
coverage/metadata side to allow specify a gridCoverageFactory on reader
creation (as Hint) to avoid creating a GridCoverageFactory or looking for
one of them anytime a reader is created.
(We would like to employ this on geoserver too when accessing
gridCoverageReader).
On the ImageMosaic side, we have improved the footprint support as well as
the support for MosaicDescriptor (An object which allow to setup a
GranuleCatalog without the need of scan datasets on disk).
