I must say that my experience, at least from boards and the like, has been that GT:IW has gotten generally positive responses from most readers. Also, much of what's improbable about the future history isn't the fault of GT:IW, as it's pre-established Traveller canon.

Have you read G:T IW? I can, reluctantly, handle the UN becoming the world government, but as the text indicates in one paragraph, the first world nations were still pretty much in control and dominated things. How is it then, that after the captain of the ship that made first contact, pretty much no one was from the first world in the NPCs and pretty much no one from the first world was shown to contribute much at all? Then there's the whole "many in the first world countries are still very nationalistic" and it goes on to explain this, yet nowhere else does it show up. If they were so nationalistic, you'd expect to see a bit of nepotism going on, yet there's nothing. It's almost as if they had to trim 30% of the text out of the finished product.

The Vilani, while we all know they lost the IWs, are portrayed as something akin to a bunch of interconnected Mafia families with a whole lot less common sense and ability to communicate.

Then, when I was expecting to get descriptions or illustrations of the small arms and gear used in the IW, all that's present is a short quip that says, "Use what's in the 4e, that'll work." No chrome, nothing. That's just plain shoddy.
