If you've followed for such a long time, then you already know how we
feel about timelines. Our concern is with stability, performance, and
reliability over deadlines. We had a big discussion about this just a
few days ago. We're not going to forsake our customer's ability to get
their jobs done over marketing hype for yet to be tried and tested
technologies. We will get it done when we're able to get it done
successfully. We can plan for exactly when that will be available any
more than you can plan on us to have something out. That's the technical
nature of the technical beast.
There's one major reason why we can't give a date. It's been said
before, but perhaps the ramifications of what we've said haven't been
give much thought. We are completely, completely, gutting what you all
know as Browse Mode, and are re-writing it from scratch. That is a
massive overhaul. We're leaving all options are on the table, and
everything is open to consideration in the new design and
implementation. We're still in the R&D phase of this process, so how can
we put a release date on that?

If you're new to the list, and haven't been involved in some of the
healthy and passionate discussions we have around here, it's easy to
think that I come across insulting and arrogant (and I'll be the first
to admit that sometimes I am the best of both). But we have a very open
and trustworthy relationship with our customers here at GW Micro, and I
don't think any of them were offended by my statement, especially Sam.
He can take it just as well as he can dish it out.
We get a little heated around here when we have to repeat the same
things over, and over, and over, and over, and over again, and at some
point, our human side wins out over our professional side. We're just
people too.
Your comments, however, are appreciated. People are most certainly free
to choose whatever screen reader they want. We know the power the goes
into Window-Eyes, and we'll back that any day.

This I found to be a rather insulting and arrogant tone to take with your
customers.
I suggest that Window Eyes users should try NVDA http://www.nvda-project.org/
the free open source screen reader for windows, the people who develop it are
open to requests and very helpful.

We stated long ago that the Browse Mode upgrade we hoped to provide in
7.1 would have to wait until after 7.1 ships, otherwise the 7.1 release
date would be pushed back even further. Imagine all the urgent emails
you'd have to write if that happened.

We've covered this over, and over. 7.1 will include a number of
enhancements, such as 64-bit support, Windows 7 support (both 32 and
64-bit), numerous Braille and Scripting enhancements, and more.
We've also stated, on more than one occasion, that our Browse Mode
re-write will happen post 7.1, so my indication that support for HTML5
elements would be post 7.1 is nothing new to what we've already
indicated.
