First of all, I am not on the beta, so just following this whole thread
and its siblings, with some curosity. I do have a few questions, as to
the F8 selection feature, and hope someone could clarify these points.
First of all, there's been alot of talk about the possibility to copy
formatted and non-formatted text. I am a little bewildered here. For a
while, we have had a feature - offered through the IE-Enhance app, to
quickly move through a table or list of a website, for instance, and
have it copied to the clipboard. The way I get it, the new embedded
feature is somehow an expansion of this functionality. Am I right this
far, or have I already lost the whole point. Why I am bringing it all
out, is that in the dialog the app pops up under WE8.4, there is a
chance to have things copied either with or without formatting. In other
words, it seems from the way I read the thread, that somehow we have
lost an existing feature, for the benefit of gaining a few more
possibilities. Sorry if I have misunderstood something here.
Agree, it sounds strange not to have the Shift-arrow selection there.
Glad to hear they are going to bring it back. Hope that they could do
that before the final release. Funny, but for all the thirteen years I
have been operating Windows-based systems, and under several screen
readers, I have always been using the Shift-Arrowing, when selecting any
text on the screen. Guess - from what I can see - I have not been on my
own. Smiles.
My next question in this regard, has to do with the operation in
Thunderbird. F8, natively is a hotkey in Thunderbird, for turning on and
off the preview pane of the mail client. All security instructions seen,
tell us to turn off the preview pane, and keep it in that state.
(actually too bad that Thunderbird by default has it turned on). The
Preview pane, can open for malware to creep in on your system, when you
scroll through your inbox. Well, you all have guessed my question, I
would assume. Really, what happens when you press F8 in Thunderbird -
either in the list of mails, or in the reading window of any received
mail? Who does see the F8 stroke - Thunderbird, or Window-Eyes?
OK, I know. GW cannot prevent any of their keystrokes from corresponding
with the keystrokes of any software on this planet. And the user can
always redefine F8 to something that will not conflict. Yet, if I am a
new user, not knowing about the F8-functionality in Thunderbird, just
downloading and installing the screen reader in its newest version, it
is of interest to know if that potentially could pose an indirect
security challenge on my system. Would be nice to have some user
feedback here, or some clarification from the staff.

be allocated a priority. Also in some cases a user might have never

Does the program you are working with support the ability to paste
text only, or keep source text? Microsoft word for example, and most

window-eyes team would be better served adding more important features

I am ok with the beta not having everything.
I am find with:

I am also fine with adding f8 to make it easier to block large amounts
of text ... I am also fine with a feature that gets all the
formatting. That's fantastic.
I just think that the ability to deal in WE with text only has value.
So, maybe in a future release that can be an option.
The thing I don't like the most is the debate of who can do what
faster, the you don't need that, the why would you ever want to do
that stuff from some posters gets old.
