Actually then you don't agree with me. That is fine. I am using windows 8.1
very happily and I am not encountering the bugs you speak of. In fact I
would say the opposite is true. I have a more stable experience under
windows 8.1 and windows 8 then I had under windows 7. I have access to more
programs under windows 8. For example I love the Facebook app for windows 8.
The twitter app for windows 8. Universal apps are important to me.

I should also add here that these apps work much better with window-eyes 9.0
beta 1. The apps work in window-eyes 8.4, but that increased use of
Microsoft active accessibility makes them really shine. I just need touch
support from window-eyes in windows 8 then it would be complete.

The ability to move copy and paste in a job system and keep working in
explorer has increased my productivity. If for whatever reason a system
refresh is needed this is possible under windows 8 and not possible under
windows 7. It can be done without speech. Whereas a windows 7 reinstall you
would need to get a talking installer in windows 8 it can all be done with
speech no problem. System restore when it is needed works better under
windows 8 then under windows 7. To each his own though. My personal view is
windows 8.1.

I hope I have done a better job explaining why.

Note the learning curve is not an issue just like I said before use classic
shell. Oh if you don't like the ribbon in windows explorer it can be
disabled.

That is one thing I am not sure I get quite frankly why a ribbon for windows
explorer.

I agree with Jim. Win 8, no matter its iterations is to

an issue she would not have asked if she should wait tell windows 10 do to

computers. Not only this but if they bought a windows 8 computer now I

buying a windows 7 computer would probably cost her more in the long run

would be somewhat higher. Then the recent purchase of windows 8. Not only
that but she gets her windows 10 capable computer at Christmas prices.

i would go for windows 7
Jim, i do not see why someone would want to upgrade when each and
everything i have ever done on xp i can do on windows 7.
Not everyone can shell out money, like popping out babies to upgrade
computers, and windowsoperating systems.
Are you offering to purchase everyone windows 8.1 computers? GOL.LOL

Hi,

I would urge you to upgrade from windows xp as soon as possible. Windows 10
is not expected tell April some time. There for I would not wait tell
windows 10. I would also not go to windows 7 either. This is an old
operating system as well. Not only that but there are a number of things
that you cannot already do with windows 7. With this being said I would go
to windows 8.1. then I would install the beta of window-eyes 9.0. then I
would go to www.ninite.com <http://www.ninite.com> and get the programs you
want from there. One of those program I would get is classic shell. This
will allow you to have the classic start menu on your windows 8.1 computer.
This way you can have a user interface that you are used to and take
advantage of all the latest capabilities of windows 8.1.

Subject: Windows 7 or wait for Windows 10?

Hi, folks.

Getting along just fine with my XP laptop for my personal use. But, getting
tempted with all of the holiday sales to get a Windows 7 machine.

Should I resist temptation and wait until Windows 10 is released?

Would be interested in hearing all pros and cons and considerations that I
should be mindful of in making my decision.

Thanks.

Martha
