I could go into little unimportant details, but essentially the difference is that the iMac has a 15" square or 17" elongated LCD display that swivels and adjusts beautifully, and the eMac has a 17" CRT display that doesn't (though you can buy a stand that helps the machine move around gracefully for about $60). Apart from that, they are essentially the same machine. Each has advantages: *don't underestimate the functionality of that LCD and it's swivel arm. Makes a HUGE difference in the enjoyment factor of the machine, particularly if more than one person not of the same height is going to use it. The LCD display, particularly on the 17" model, is so beautiful and crisp and bright ... nothing even remotely like it in the CRT world. The lack of "glare" on LCDs is also welcome to people like me, not to mention the significant (50%) power savings ... *OTOH, the CRT display has two advantages over the LCD ... first, CRTs can easily change resolutions and still look great, and second, CRTs still have an edge on colour fidelity over LCDs for doing exacting prepress colour work. Coloursync helps even the gap but I'm told that CRTs still have the edge in this regard. _Chas_ Come to ...
