The seller told me he had a wireless network in his premises and the laptops sometimes had to be moved round to get in range. This is more difficult with desktops. Maybe his wireless equipment wasn't as good as it could be.

I personally use an Airport Extreme Base station at home, which works
well, and I get excellent reception all around. Worked well when the
PC laptop recognized it's wireless card too. Never really had to
move anything to get better reception.

I have Airport Extreme and a 17" PowerBook. I have to move my PB around sometimes to get the signal. Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting the angle of the screen to a more vertical position. Other times I need to rotate the laptop just a little. The closer I am to the base, the better the reception. Living room is one wall away; bedroom is two walls away.

My iMac and my sons' PCs are all "ethernetted" to the Airport Extreme.
