odd, why not get a wireless network? I've had an easier time on the
wireless networks I've set up than wired ones, they were over all
cheaper to set up, and easier as well. Plus the not having to run
wires and cables all over the place sure does help alot, even if it
is a desktop computer.

I have no expertise to offer, being a recent Mac convert myself,
but I do have two suggestions:
The recently released Mac Mini has a good reputation and (I think)
will work with standard PC keyboard and monitors - it's also cheap.
I nearly bought a wireless network recently and was advised (by the
person who stood to make money out of me) that it's only really
worthwhile if you're using laptops. Bearing this advice in mind,
have you considered an iBook?
