Just in case someone from Ipswitch is actually monitoring this forum... here
is the sniff:

250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN GRAM-MD5

AUTH LGIN

334 VXNchangedToProtectTHE INNOCENT CODE HOLDERS
500 failed authentication


And the cycle continues for a while, then allows you to send mail through
(after 16 attempts)
