Unfortunately in my case AOL cannot read a WHOIS lookup correctly for my IP is stated as being fixed.
I've never heard of an MX machine doing whois lookups to validate incoming mail.
I really doubt whether AOL people, or anybody else, have the time to do whois lookups manually, either.
In my DNS courses, I see a lot of confusion about DNS and whois. The two are totally unrelated in operation.
