No, it's not terrible at all! In fact, it's wonderful--"endearing" was
the word I used, which is quite counter to "terrible." I never
suggested AT ALL that this was an ongoing catastrophe. However, the
position had been taken that AOL is too smart to make mistakes. I
countered with proof to the contrary: an extremely recent example
(from this very week) of a giant blunder that came from a policy that
wasn't well thought-out (I don't buy that "hacker wacker"
implementation issue line, but only someone up high at your employer
knows for sure). This shows that AOL does recalculate based on market
reaction. Good for them/you for not being infallible and being stupid
sometimes. I'm much more amenable to that way of doing business that
the always-cunning, always-stealthy reputation that AOL has earned
from many other incidents.

Josh, do you have any skepticism about your employer at all, or are
you going to continue to press only on how hard it is to run a giant
company? I know it's tough, you're framed by your previous success,
mo' money, mo' traffic, etc. This is not something you need to remind
us of. Ever see investment advice aimed at high-net-worth individuals:
"We know it's difficult to deal with your wealth." I believe such
people feel what is for them genuine anguish at managing and
maintaining their place in the elite. I don't empathize or sympathize,
but I don't deny that *they* feel oppressed by success and take
actions that are self-protective. That doesn't mean that an outsider
can not bring to bear a knowledge of the non-elite world and how it is
affected by those actions.
