We have long experienced the same problem trying to admin a large (50k user) list from the web interface.
pulling 50 K items into an HTML <select> box is totally different from scanning a 2 GB or 200 MB mbx file to display a 25-row HTML table, but they are equally insane. :)
We obviously do not admin it at all from the web anymore :) I feel your pain. We are able to admin smaller lists (100 users +/-) no problem over the web. That whole larger hard drive argument is ridiculous.
not larger, but faster, caching, etc, etc. and defragging continuously and close attention to partitioning and where the webmail workspace is.
