By this reasoning, Word, Excel, etc. all suffer from the same "serious
misdesign" as IMail. It takes them a looong them to load a 2 GB document or
spreadsheet ;)

Even though 5.x did not do as much parsing when opening a mailbox, I cannot
understand how Webmail was "lightning fast".

Are you sure that you had 2 GB mailboxes when you were using 5.x?
