is a serious misdesign in Imail itself. It now parses for a lot of information in every MBX file when loading.
to show the from: and subject: headers, it must.
I really don't know how any webmail server could read, and often re-read, a flat file of 2 GB extremely quickly as the user pages through the mbx summary screens. sounds miraculous to me.
Support at Ipswitch told us it was our older Seagate SCSI drives, but we just do not buy this.
To read disk fast, you need fast disk.
+ fastest, caching SCSI controllers, fast CPU, plenty of RAM when you have a lot of simultaneous webmail users.
We only had a problem when we went to 7.x then 8.x To use it is the most serious problem with Imail now and it is a bad one. 5.x was instant on the loading.
hmm, Imail 5 could display the headers from 2 GB mbx file instantly? PTL!
Don't know what the version was, but back in 1998, I remember being condemned to webmail when I was on the road for a week, and my .mbx quickly hit 4 K msgs. I don't know what that is in MBytes, but it was gawdawful slow trying to page through it.
Even worse, I couldn't clean out the mbx to keep it small because every time, I checked of a bunch of msgs to delete, and then deleted, webmail would refuse, saying "delete aborted, mbx has changed" (due to new msgs arriving while I was waiting for the webpages to display and do my click to delete futility.)
