Sounds like it's being filtered out if anything, or there is some software on the server side that filters and adds a header/footer to the message. Have you been able to send any PDF files to this user? I had a problem where the footer appended to a message by Declude Virus was causing emailed appointments in Outlook to get messed up. I removed the footer and everything went back to normal. Not sure why it would specifically target PDF's in your case, unless there's just a line of code at the start or end of the PDF attachment that is getting tied into a footer, and not being read by the client correctly. When you see the message in the client, is the email message the same size as it would be with the actual attachment, or is it smaller?
I figure either something is filtering it out at the server, or there is some sort of header/footer info being tacked on to the emails by the server that is interfering. Sam -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of IMail Admin Sent: Friday, November 28, 2003 2:42 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] help needed with disappearing attachment We have a client who receives a critical email early every couple of mornings. This email contains an important PDF file attachment. The problem is that the attachment disappears: the email shows up with no sign of the attachment. We can't figure how this is happening, since there are no other problems with attachments to (or from) that mailbox. One strange thing is that almost looks like the attachment has merged (invisibly) into the body of the message. Here are the full details: This client is retiring their Exchange server and outsourcing their email to us. Previously, they used Outlook 97 for email, now they are switched to Outlook Express 6. This important email comes in twice a week with a roughly 120 KB attachment, which is a PDF file. This email is actually sent to an alias ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which forwards to three users (eric, george, and mike). They use IMAP for access. As of the changeover to us, the messages began showing up without the attachment. I ran a series of tests. The client can receive all other emails with attachments just fine. I went so far as to send them a couple of files with large (1.6 MB) attachments, which they received without trouble. They receive other emails (with attachments) from this same source without problem. I see no sign of the missing attachment on our server. In fact, I cannot replicate the problem -- I can't make an attachment disappear. You might think that this would be a problem on the other end (the sender), but they send to a group of people and our client is the only one with a problem, and only since switching to us. One other interesting thing: I noticed that the email (with the attachment missing) had a lot of blank space at the end of the message. I was curious about this, so I used the IMail Client program to open the email. There is some sort of option within the IMail client to save the message as a .bin file, which I then opened with notebook. It appears that the data from the PDF attachment has been merged into the email message body. I have no idea why this would occur or how to fix it. The client is understandably upset with us, so any help would be greatly appreaciated.
