We use Mcafee (7.01 currently) in a couple ways.
1. Mcafee is tied to declude for all incoming/outgoing mail.
2. On access scan for all directories not related to imail or declude.
3. With the standard work station install, you can enable automatic download and update of dat files - even for the dos version that declude is tied to
4. The server also retrieves some speciali pop3 mailboxes and scans (normal mcafee tie to outlook express)
5. An early morning scan only / no remove is done on the imail user folders. It emails/alerts us anything that slipped through. That might sound redundant with incoming scans enabled - but think of it this way. A new virus comes out but the dat's are not updated yet. Many of our users leave mail on the server for 1 to 2 days before downloading via outlook or outlook express - we've caught a few that way before they download.

Subject: Re: Doug Anderson [IMail Forum] Cross-grade concerns addressed

Doug,
you mentioned, that you use mcAfee's corporate edition currently. How does that cover the email server? Is it a software that's running on your email server or it is a hardware based like a firewall, that scans not just the surfing and ftp traffic but the in&out email server traffic as well?

Jill,

That's for the clarification on the "cross grade"

Another issue with this whole cross grade is IPSwitch forcing options that people have to pay for whether they use them or not. NO other email package midrange or highend with a good name forces you to purchase a specific Virus package. We already use Mcafee's corporate edition. Our contract with Mcafee covers any server whether it be novell, nt or unix. We previously used the IPSwitch virus scan (Carrier Scan) and found it lacking in functionality and ability (It allowed virus through). We opted out on that SA for those reasons and because we already owned a viable option. I can say that it was lacking because we previously used Exchange with Mcafee. We also evaluated Symantec at that time.

You marketing people didn't do their jobs. You bundle your product in this manner, you will loose customers and new sales because most corporate entities already have contracts with one of the major players in that virus protection market. As for the IM stuff, we don't need it, we don't want it, we don't allow our corporate employees to use IM. Why should we pay for it?

Jill, to be honest..I would recommend you go back to your managers and talk about damage control. Right now IPSwitch is looking at alienating and loosing customers.
Your packaging of the new product leaves something to be desired. IPSwitch's reputation is and will take a big hit...as most of the users on this board have far reaching influence on what customers purchases. Has IPSwitch also thought about support? This board has been the primary support structure for many of the IMail users and this is the group that IPSwitch is Alienating. Myself, I've contacted IPSwitch support on Imail and FTPServer only to become frustrated because of the lack of technical ability at the other end (or no response) and then gain even more frustration when I put the question to the board and within an hour have the answer I seek. The cost of getting your support line up to a functional level......

Like I said, IPSwitch better start doing some damage control.
